Recent legislative changes mean new SMSF borrowing arrangements for residential property are generally no longer available.
However, eligible SMSFs may still be able to borrow to acquire qualifying commercial property using an LRBA structure. Existing arrangements entered into before the legislative changes may be subject to separate transitional provisions.
Because the rules are complex and can change over time, professional advice should be obtained before making any investment or borrowing decisions.
